Let us convey our gratitude to those who celebrated Sindhi culture and Sindhi identity in Birmingham (UK), Calgary (Canada), Houston (USA, and Washington DC (USA). Two more get-togethers (New York on Nov. 26 and Washington DC on Dec. 5) are still planned Sindhi Culture Celebration Day festivities of overseas Sindhis to create awareness about Sindhi culture of peace and heritage.

HOUSTON, TX.- Sindhi luminaries, Naz Sanai (48) of Sann, Sindh and Dr. M. K. Jetley (79) of New Delhi, India, were conferred with the prestigious ‘G. M. Syed Memorial Awards 2010’ in recognition of their contributions to Sindhi identity, language and Sindhi Rights Movement.
These awards were announced during the 107th Birthday Anniversary Commemoration of G M Syed, held January 2011 in Houston, TX. These awards are jointly sponsored by the World Sindhi Congress (WSC) and the G. M. Syed Memorial Committee, a Houston, Texas-based educational group.

HOUSTON, TX, USA. Tens of hundreds of Sindhi-Americans gathered in Houston on Saturday, January 15, 2011 to commemorate the 107th birthday of Mr. G. M. Syed, a national leader of the Sindh who waged a nonviolent struggle against religious fundamentalism and for freedom.
Sindh is home to the ancient Indus (Sindhu) Valley civilization and is now a unit of Pakistan. A vibrant Sindhi-American community numbering in the tens of thousands lives in various U.S. cities. More than 30 million Sindhis live in Sindh today. Sindhis are supportive of democracy and secularism and have been marginalized by security establishment of the country and its religious extremist reactionary ideology.
Huston : On Saturday, January 15th, 2011, the World Sindhi Congress and G M Syed Memorial Committee is hosting a gathering in Houston, TX to commemorate the 107th birthday of Saeen G. M. Syed, a leader who waged a nonviolent struggle against Islamic fundamentalism and strove toward the emancipation of Sindh. It is our pleasure to invite you to this event. Your participation would let Sindhis know that people around the world support their struggle for human rights, democracy and secularism.
For the last Seven years we have been arranging similar community events in Houston. In year 2005 Honorable Rick Perry, Governor State of Texas sent special greetings on this occasion. In his message, the Governor said:
Sindhi-Americans continue to play an important role in promoting peace, democracy, and human rights. By putting thought into action, you have reinforced the importance of being civic minded, committed citizens, and I wish you continued success.
Bill White, Mayor of Houston, proclaimed the January 16th, 2005 and January 21, 2006 as “G M Syed Day(s) for the City of Houston.” The program in Houston will be held at BBQ Tonite Restaurant, 4617 Beechnut St, Houston, TX, USA,
International Sindhi cultural, Heritage and solidarity day celebrated in Toronto, Houston Texas, Washington, New York, London and Saint Louis by Sindhi Association of North America (SANA) and World Sindhi Congress (WSC).
Around one hundred Sindhi living in Houston gathered and enjoyed a colorful and cold evening. Majority was dressed in Sindhi cultural Ajrak and Topi and enjoyed Sindhi music.

Huston, TX: Ram Jethmalani, the former Indian Union minister, the former member of Rajya Sabha and president of the Supreme Court of India, said that I am the representative of the scattered Sindhi people living around the globe. He was speaking in Houston at the 26th annual convention of the Sindhi Association of North America as a Chief Guest. He said that I was forcefully separated from my motherland during partition of subcontinent. I have experienced living as a refugee but I’ve never thought about revenge. In the refugee camp, I had thought that if India and Pakistan will not become friends, then they will both be destroyed and with that belief I have lived in India. He said that I want to claim that Pakistan doesn’t have any better friend then me in India. He said, I respect all religions and every person has a right to live his life according to his religious beliefs. He said, “Please have courage to speak the truth. We are going through a very delicate situation today if our youngsters do not learn and pick up the courage to speak the truth. The democracy will never survive and the freedom will disappear from our hands.” His emphasis was on the need and importance of education. He said “no society can survive without education.” and “Democracy without education is hypocrisy without limitations.” He said there are two signs of Sindhi sabhita (Sindhi culture). “One is internal which is to serve the people and the other one is language. He said the essence of sindhyat is secularism”.
PR- June 26- TX: Sindhi Association of North America (SANA) is to hold its 26th annual convention at Westin Galleria Hotel, Houston TX, July 2-5. SANA is the largest representative, secular, democratic organization of Sindhi’s living in USA and Canada. Its annual convention is the most popular and a major community event attended by a large number of people.
Former Indian Union Minister, member of Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament and president of the Supreme Court Bar Association of India Ram Jethmalani will be Chief Guest at the convention. Former Minister of State in Pakistan and ex-chairman of the Technical Committee on Water Resources, Engineer A. N. G. Abbasi will be the keynote speaker. Former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan and Pakistani ambassador to USA Najamuddin Shaikh, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party chief Dr Qadir Magsi and head of Sindh TV Dr Karim Rajpar, Dr Sono Khangharani, Jami Chandio, Imtiaz Shaikh and Zulfiqar Halepoto are among panelists at various sessions.
The proposed sessions at the convention include the general body session, a special session on Sindhi Youth and future of SANA, economic and political situation in Sindh, Sindhi identity and the role of Sindhi Diaspora, sessions for ladies, medical seminar and the literary session, Sindhi Adabi Mehfil.
Two nights of great Sindhi music have also been planned for the convention. Artists from USA, and Sindh, Pakistan including Humaira Channa, Arshad Mehmood and Siridivi, will perform at the convention.
Mayor Houston Annise D. Parker and US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison are also expected to attend and speak at the convention.

We should join discussion and may formulate future strategy of HOW TO CONTEST AN ETHNIC ORGRANIZATION’S aggressive plans to control Sindh particularly Karachi the capital of Sindh. We should not forget that MQM has been trying for Premiership i.e; seat of Prime minister of Pakistan by any means and they are in full gear and already have initiated efforts in this direction. As we know that maximum benefit of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination goes towards MQM than anybody else. There are newly emerging Signs in politics of Pakistan that in near future NEW POLITICAL GROUPS will be formed and even Nawaz Shareef will be weakened further in Punjab!! Lets see and watch next maneuvering from Establishment in this regard — and all depends on PPP’s stand on Bibi’s murder/fact- finding committee’s report and possible trial of Mushrraf?? along with highly biased role of present Judiciary and in addition the negative politics of ANP AND FUNCTIONAL MUSLIM LEAGUE in Sindh for which MQM was waiting for and now it is not a question of IF but WHEN. On the other hand PPP Politicians declaring themselves as “MUGHAL-i-Azam”!? of Sindh. Last but not least — International players are there to interfere (as always) in Pakistan’s affairs to make this perplexing situation more worse and unpredictable.
Houston Sindhi community once again starting a Sindhi program on local radio (http://www.kgol1180am.com/) 1180 AM starting from tomorrow Sunday 03-01-09 (12:00 pm to 1:00 pm) Central time. It is a volunteer based program & will promote Sindhi language, culture & its traditions. Tomorrow is just a introduction but from 03-08-09 will be a fully prepared program. All of Houston, Austin & san Antonio including Beaumont should be able listen the program.
