AT mulls train march
KARACHI – The Awami Tehreek on Sunday announced a ‘train march’ from Karachi to Islamabad, where a sit-in would be staged in front of the Parliament House, against the proposed project of Zulfikarabad town and other anti-Sindh projects initiated by the ruling PPP and its allies. This decision came at Awami Tehreek’s central committee meeting in Hyderabad chaired by its chief Ayaz Latif Palijo.
According to party’s Information Secretary Noor Ahmed Katiar, the meeting weighed a number of options against certain anti-Sindh projects, including the proposed Zulfikarabad city.
“After thorough deliberations, the Awami Tehreek has decided to take out a ‘train march’ to the federal capital and stage a sit-in in front of the Parliament House after Ramazan,” Katiar said while speaking to this scribe by telephone. About other decisions taken during the meeting, the nationalist leader said these would be unveiled by Ayaz Latif Palijo at a press conference scheduled for Monday (today).
The Awami Tehreek meanwhile declared that the Sindhis would never allow their province to be bifurcated under any circumstances. The meeting also condemned mass killings of Sindhis, Balochs and other people on ethnic grounds in the metropolis. On May 22, a pro-Sindh rally of the Awami Tehreek was attacked by unidentified gunmen, killing 14 people and wounding several others. A month later, the party held a massive public meeting in Lyari, reissuing calls for the arrest of attackers of its Love Sindh rally. In a desperate move, the government created obstacles for the Awami Tehreek by blocking all roads leading to Lyari, imposing the Section-144. Not only this, the government also issued orders for the arrest of Ayaz Latif Palijo under the MPO (maintenance of public order) rules. Palijo, however, managed to enter Lyari to address the event titled “Shaheedan-e-Muhabbat-e-Sindh Jalsa”.
WSC announces anti-Zulfikarabad protest in London: The World Sindhi Congress (WSC) has announced a protest demonstration outside the Chinese Embassy in London, on August 5, 2012.
According to a statement, the purpose of the demonstration is to press a Chinese company, who has been awarded a contract for developing the disputed Zulfikarabad town in Sindh, to distance from the project.
The demonstration would be held from 2pm to 4pm at Portland, where the Chinese Embassy is located, WSC chairman Dr Hidayat Bhutto, secretary general Lakhu Mal and others said in a statement. They have asked all the Sindhi people living in the UK to fully participate in demonstration.
