I agree with the  observations and inferences about so called inability of security forces to defeat few thousand Taliban. Indeed, the rulers of Pakistan think that this game lets them secure much-needed “big bugs”. However, the menace of “Taliban” and its threat to sufi Islam in the long run cannot be under-estimated.

An evidence that when establishment wants, they can be very very swift is demonstrated in Balochistan. Indeed, the game is being played to get large funds from the USA and other countries. However, we must not ignore the fact there is a long term consequence of faciltating extermists to operate freely in society. The price of the damage that “taliban” ideology”can do to a tolerant sufi society by influencing their thought process could take many more centuries to neutralize. The middle class of Iran too made similar assumptions in 1979. They believed that after Shah is gone, handling few mullah would not be a big deal. Thirty years later, the “mullah rule” in Iran not only thrives but is becoming well-entrentched.
In a society where the justice is always slipping away from common men and women, people can scum to strange ideologies simply because they promise them justice and heavens.
In my view our best bet is work on multiple fronts so that we resist present and future menances to our society.
