Pleasant feelings of fishing community are waning

Recent River flood brought good feelings for fishing community in Sindh. Because It recharged various dried lakes and brought fish seeds into them. Such feelings of fishermen are waning because of returning process of seeds from lakes through inlets of river due to non availability of nets which could be installed against inlets inorder to stop return of fish seed. Same are gloomy feelings of fishing community of Ageemanai Kori village situated on bank of Ageemani Kori Lake in Thatto.

Ageemonai Kori Lake is situated seven kilometers away from Thata city in its south.It spreads on eight squaire kilo meters with eight foot deep water.Kori has two feerders: one is KB feeder and other one is Indus river. KB feeder discharges insufficient water which could not help in filling of kori and creating sufficient fish catch.Therefore, flood Water discharged into Kori brought feelings of hope and pleasure for fisherman despite the sufferings brought by flood interm of material losses.

“Hope of increase in catch fish overshadowed pain of our sufferings brought by flood”, said Karo Mallah, a fisherman resident of Ageemani Kori Village.Fishing is the only source of livelihhod of more than 100 houses of fishing community of Agreement kori Village. “Our survival depends on fish; retrun of fish seed is just like return of our soul from our bodies”Said Karo.

Pleasant feelings of fisherman community of Ageemani Kori could not sustain for long.They begun to worry “When we saw fish seed retruing into river”, said Karo Mallah.

“Time is still ripe to sustain our good feelings if we are provided nets to stop retrun of fish seed”said Karo Mallah.

Fishermen of Kori are economically down trodden; “We can’t buy new nets and boats because for the years Kori remain dried without fish” said Karo with sadness.

The pleasant feeling of this community can be suatined if they are provided nets and boats which got damaged in flood.
