So my sister proposed a project for me, her, my brother and our cousins to do for our grandma back in May:
Pick an inspirational/uplifting quote and pick or make an image to go with it.
It took me a while to get it started because I didn’t want to just pick a photo or something, I wanted to make something… but I had no idea where to start.
Once I finally found a quote that I thought fit, creating the final product came naturally.
Take a look!
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched.
They must be felt with the heart.”
– Hellen Keller
Now that I finally picked a quote, all the ideas started to rush in!
I first started by making the hands. I thought that it was a nice way to convey “feeling with the heart”. My idea in my head was to draw these hands in black and white and then the background being full of color and other wonderful things and just overall looking abstract, but after I cut out the hands, I realized it could be used in a different way..
So I decided to make a collage of things that are beautiful and wonderful , but then I realized that having big clumpy pieces of magazines pasted together didn’t look as nice, or didn’t mesh well together, so I tore up little pieces. so that the different qualities and textures could be spread out evenly.
I realized I had a bunch of green pieces and decided to go with that for the overall color scheme.
Originally I came up with the idea of getting red colored pages/pieces to place within the heart formed by the hands. However, as fate may have it, when I was looking through magazines for pages to use, I came across this lovely find (red circle above). PERFECT!
The method of gluing that I decided to use was Elmer’s with some water mixed in and then spread with a paintbrush.
I got the idea from a project that I did in Intermediate school.
Lastly, instead of hand writing the quote onto the collage, I decided to try and find every word in the magazines to use instead.
That took a lot of work, but in the end I managed to find everything, if not most of it!
and Ta-da!
I love the magazine cutout words! I was planning to do that for a couple of my blog posts, when I don't want to show a picture, but rather have something creatively spell out my title in an image 🙂
