Inktober is here! I’ve been looking forward to this for the past month. This year I decided to challenge myself to do 2 prompt lists at the same time.
As an artist it’s very easy to get bogged down comparing yourself to other people’s work. What I have learned-and relearned again recently-is that the quickest way to make yourself unhappy is to compare yourself to others. That is why I made it a point to not focus on what others are doing, but rather, myself. Here are my goals for this Inktober:
- Finish the challenge: Daily challenges are hard enough in itself. If I can just stick to posting every day, and keep on track until Halloween, I’ll be very happy with myself.
- Don’t focus on perfection: This may seem counter intuitive, but if I concentrate too much on perfection, I might never post anything! I’m not going to pretend I’m some sort of perfect artist, cause I’m not. I also don’t have a lot of time in the day to buildup a masterpiece, and with the little time I have it’s enough pressure as is. Refer back to my first goal of Inktober
- Time for Practice: Inktober is a way for me to practice new techniques and try out new tools. I don’t often have a chance to sit down and just work on drawings with my hands, so Inktober will be the perfect time to do so. Practice comes with mistakes, and so I refer you back to my 2nd goal.
Hopefully with all of this in mind, I’ll be able to keep on track the best that I can. Check out my Instagram feed to follow along until Halloween. Happy Inktobering!
