P2: Form/Function

It’s a little hard to explain everything that went through my head to actually come to this design… but here I go:
Back when I was taking J201: Media & Society, I remember my professor saying that the reason Facebook was so popular is because it turned writing into speech. In comparison, blogging and writing in a journal is usually a very lonely activity. Now on Facebook you can write a status update and people can instantly comment on it.
So, taking that and a lot of other thoughts I have about Facebook, I tried to turn it back into a journal/diary.
I think another comment I’m trying to make is that now with the “like” button or “poke” button, I feel like people are communicating even less. Instead of actually leaving a comment, you just hit the “like” button.
However, this made me think of the fact that sometimes people check your page, but don’t comment or anything, as if they were never there. It’s almost like having a secret admirer… or stalker.. because they are always checking up on you, but never really talk to you. So I tried to illustrate that in the pages of the journal/diary.

Anyways, a lot of ideas went through my head, but I came up with this.

Method:
– Drawn in sketch book
– Took picture of it and colored in Photoshop
– Used Bamboo Fun tablet

  1. great insights, Kelli 🙂 There was a really interesting article that Time Magazine ran on Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook…you should check it out. Did you know Facebook's icon is blue and white because those are two colors that color-blind zuckerberg can actually see? 😉
