ACTION ALERT: Plight of Rinkel Kumari – Please help!)))))))

Hindus in Pakistan have experienced harsh, brutal, and severely inhumane living conditions since the creation of Pakistan in 1947. Kidnappings, physical and psychological torture, rapes, forced conversions to Islam, forced marriages of young Hindu girls to Muslim men, lack of police protection, bonded labor, and religious-based discrimination has become the norm for our Hindu brothers and sisters who chose not to leave Sindh after the partition of India. Of late the rise in Islamic fundamentalism throughout Pakistan has created a viciously hostile environment, choking Hindus of their basic rights to live in the land of their forefathers.

Many of you may have heard about the case of Rinkel Kumari, a teen Hindu girl from the town of Mirpur Mathelo who was kidnapped on February 24, 2012. Rinkel’s case is quickly gaining media attention in Pakistan and around the world – not because it is shockingly rare – but because it is one of several recent cases in which young Hindu girls were kidnapped, tortured, forcibly converted to Islam under the mandate of a Mullah, and immediately forced to marry a Muslim man. Notably, the man behind Rinkel’s abduction – Mian Abdul Haq (aka Mian Mithu) – is a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Her abduction by a MNA of the ruling political party in Pakistan clearly highlights a case of state-sponsored terrorism. Moreover, the same week Rinkel was kidnapped three other Hindu girls were kidnapped and underwent the same harassment, conversion, and forced marriage including a physician who worked at a prestigious hospital in Karachi. The female physician, Dr. Lata, was forcibly married to a Muslim man who already kidnapped and converted 5 Hindu wives previously. Since Rinkel was kidnapped just over two weeks ago dozens of other Hindu girls in Sindh have been either kidnapped or are reported missing.

According to the Pakistan Hindu Council, a social organization in Pakistan, at least 25 Hindu girls are reported kidnapped each month in Sindh. When combined with the number of cases that go unreported that number increases to over 50 per month. This recent increase in brutality toward the Hindu community has caused thousands of Hindus to migrate from their native land of Sindh and leave for India in the last year alone. Thousands more have left without being accounted for given their surreptitious and abrupt exodus.

We as International citizens have the ability to do something about this. In the United States our democratic government allows us to express our views to our elected officials who represent us in our nation’s capitol, Washington, D.C. Congressman Brad Sherman, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives recently expressed his thoughts on the cruel treatment of Hindus in Pakistan in a letter to Pakistan’s President, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari. This letter has increased the attention that Pakistan’s government and media have given to the case of Rinkel Kumari and of other kidnapped Hindu girls.

I urge you to take a few minutes of your time to call Mr. Sherman’s office at 202-225-5911 and express your support for his view that Rinkel’s case be tried fairly in a court of law where she can express herself without the pressure of death threats and violence by the disgusting animals who claim she converted to Islam out of her own free will.

Furthermore, the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is the President’s chief foreign affairs adviser. The Secretary carries out the President’s foreign policies through the State Department and the Foreign Service of the United States. Pick up the phone and make a quick phone call to Mrs. Clinton’s office to speak with Mr. Marc Grossman, the Special Representative for Afghanistan  and Pakistan and encouraging him to contact Mr. Zardari and express his discontent with the discriminating and prejudiced treatment of Hindus in Pakistan. This will surely impact the outcome of this case and of others that follow – especially because of the enormous financial funding Pakistan receives from the U.S. as its ally in the war on terror. Let us firmly assert that Pakistan should take accountability for terrorism occurring on its own soil if it cares to remain an ally in this fight to end world terrorism.

  1. I am 100% agree with the statement of Mr. Chander Kumar Kohli. In such
    cases Indian Government will do something for the Hindus, those who are badly
    treated in Pakistan, or the muslims from India will sent back to Pakistan and
    Hindus from Pakistan will brought to the India.

  2. This kind of happenings always occur in our state but no action is taken yet. This is for the first time in the history of Pakistan that this kind of action is taken and the news is upgraded by our media. No doubt Muslims in Pakistan are cool minded but Mullahs (Fundamentalists) have ruined these developed Muslims and because of them problems always arise. There are many Rinkles who have end their lives through suicide or are leading worst lives. I saw a picture of mother of Rinkle in last day’s newspaper, she was looking sorrowful. In Pakistan our decision making at the age of 20 is also not good and girls are too feeble for decision making at that stage because its too young for both genders.

    I feel that there should be a law in the Pakistan that

    1.Any Non Muslim willing to become a Muslim can not be for the sake of physical intention (marriage).
    2.One can marry after 6 months of being a converted Muslim.
    3.Government should take a step that one can not be a Muslim till the age of 24 without the permission of parents.
