Alto Lovin’!

So tonight I finally had some time to myself to just relax and chill out. This past week has been so exhausting, in more ways than one, it’s nice to just have some quiet time alone. (Wow, I sound so anti-social) Haha.

But anyways, I decided to post something tonight! It’s something that I worked on this past Sunday while I was waiting in the computer lab to see if anyone needed help.

I decided to remake a design for our section shirts for marching band. My section leader wanted to use a design that I came up with a couple years back, but I decided I wanted to redo it.

The 2009 design

First off, put more detail on the sax. I think back then I was still getting to know the pen tool and have you seen a sax? There’s so many keys!!! I think I was too lazy to get all the details put together xD.
However, this time I wanted to do it right, so I decided to work on it!

Composition 1

I thought I could find another duck photo to reference, but I couldn’t find another one that seems to fit just as well. So instead I decided to just use the same duck and redo the pen job on it.
I also wanted to place the year the same place that I put the “2009” on the old design, but it didn’t seem to fit/balance right, and the 1’s were throwing off the balance. So I decided to place it on the bell of the sax instead.

After I finished this design, I decided to post it in our Critique group for digital arts and see what people thought/suggested. Two suggestions that I took in were:

  1. Change the kerning between the 1’s to space them out a little more.
  2. Change the words “Alto lovin'” to white with a black outline instead
I love getting feedback because it let’s me know how other people are seeing it and in return it helps me to figure out corrections to make. I may not agree with everything that is suggested, but I still like the feedback, no matter what. It’s the only way to get better!

In the end, I’d have to say that I like it a lot better. It’s amazing how such small changes can make such a difference.

I also think it’s cool to look at the old one and the new one to see how much I have improved with using the pen tool in the past 2 years!

Anyways, thanks for checking it out! 😀
