Roommates!

I decided to post another old project from this past fall term. I made this for my digital imaging class. I have to say that it is one of my favorites that I made in that class. This is the first serious composite in photoshop that I ever did.

Serious as in quality… not so much subject matter 😛

Read on to see more of the project details.

Here’s the project description taken directly from my teacher [he worded it a lot better] :

I want you to stage a scene within photoshop that gives such a fantastic vision clout and clarity. You must design an image that brings many photographed elements of widely-ranging size coherently and seamlessly into one space. I want even, realistic lighting and shadows, believable atmospherics, all brought together in a thoughtfully composed arrangement.

Taking that in mind, I decided to try and set up my stuffed animals (+ Manikin) in the living room of mine and my roommates’ apartment.
I took all the pictures at around the same time to make sure that the lighting was right, and I also took them in the same room and around the same general area at the same angle in the room to make sure the lighting was right too.

In the end, when I was finished I adjusted the colors in the photo to give it a different feel.

For me the hardest character to work with was the Manikin because I thought it looked too sharp compared to my soft stuffed animals.
The shot glass was also hard to figure out because I wanted it to still seem translucent.
Shadows were hard too, but I managed enough.

It took about 4 straight hours, but I’m glad how it turned out.
Made in Photoshop CS5

  1. this is way cool Kelli! I've been meaning to try out composites for a while…I've seen some wedding shooters do amazing things with this concept for group photos 🙂
