HYDERABAD: The Jeay Sindh Mahaz (J) at the concluding session of its two-day national congress held in Radhan on Sunday, elected Dr Barkat Ali Jatoi as the chairman of the party for the next two years and Dr Arbab Khuhawar and Abdul Khaliq Junejo as senior vice-chairman and vice- chairman, respectively.
Hashim Khoso was elected as the general secretary. Elections for the other posts were also held.
Held under the chairmanship of Abdul Khaliq Junejo, it decided to celebrate “National Right of Self-determination Day ” every year on April 1 to mark Sindh’s separation from Bombay presidency during the last days of the British Raj.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Barkat Jatoi said that workers were a great asset of any party, and hoped that JSM-J activists would give a new direction to the national movement.
The sovereignty and prosperity of Sindh could only be ensured if the workers were to strengthen their relat- ionship with the people, he added.
Senior progressive leader Rochi Ram, who attended the congress as an observer, stressed the need for breaking the status quo in the social and economic situation of Sindh.
He said this could only be made possible if a poor peasant was given more importance than a feudal lord.
