Haha, I never remember the second half of what the topic for this project was.
But no matter, I like the theme of theatricality more so.
Overall, I think that what I noticed about myself doing this project is that I kinda like and work better when I don’t plan things out toooo much. Sometimes I think that when I go into a project with a specific idea, it doesn’t really come out right in the end. I guess trying too hard seems to mess it up. When I go about things casually, and kinda experiment at the same time they seem to be what I’m the most happy with (at least most of the time).
Anyways, that’s 3/4 of my final projects so far!
Stay tuned for my final project for Letterpress!!!
In total I had 7 photos that I turned in. I got an “A” on it too
Thanks for checking me out!
]]>First off, 9am photo shoot with my friends for my B&W Photography class.
That was a lot of fun!
Then, I went to the photography studio to flatten my dry prints from the other day.
Then I biked home in this fantabulous weather
Grabbed some film that I left at home, video clips and a can of air and headed back to the studios.
2 hours in the photography studio developing my 2 rolls of film and making a contact sheets.
I was SUPER SUPER happy how my negatives came out… I can’t wait to print them tomorrow!
Then I had to leave somewhere for an hour, then came back to the darkroom to do a couple more prints.
I really liked how one of them came out! So I can’t wait to show it!
After everything was done, I stayed behind to complete the final wash.
I was a little irritated with the monitor there because they were waiting for me to finish up and squeegee the prints and put them on the rack so that they could leave… but didn’t at least offer to help me put them on the rack!!! I mean.. dude, if you’re in a hurry and want to close up the studio on time.. HELP. >o<
Anyways
After that I headed over to the Letterpress studio. I got there an hour earlier than I signed up, but no one was there, so I decided to get started.
I was so proud of myself for setting up the press all by myself
I then spent three hours in there. So far I got the image printing part of my project done, but next is the text. That might be a little harder, but I don’t think it’ll take too long.
I’ll most likely get it done tomorrow night, for sure. [not to mention 4 days early!]
Now I’m in the computer lab helping to work on some videos.
Haha, long long day…
I’m waiting for some food that I ordered. So hungry~!
Anyways, back to work!
]]>Letterpress
Here’s a photo of one of the first things I did:
Letterpress is going pretty good so far. I can’t wait until I can start using my own graphics to print in here.
Above is a picture of my name tag on my lab book. I didn’t design the nice brown print, but I layed the text for my name.
It’s cool getting my hands dirty again to do art. It takes a whole different type of thinking, ya know?
Today I put together a 30-word paragraph. That alone took at least an hour and a half just to get all the letters together and then make sure they all printed correctly. >.<
Lots of work, but pretty satisfying in the end.

Here’s the baby I get to use. It belongs to my mom, I can’t believe it still works!
It’s not like this is the first time I’ve ever taken photos with a film camera, but it’s weird going from the D90 to this all of a sudden. It’s not as easy to experiment considering you can’t see your results instantly >.<
About a week ago I shot my first B&W roll of film. I brought a small notebook around with me to keep track of the f-stop and the shutter speeds that I used. So much work!! Haha
Then I got to develop the film a couple days ago.
I’d say the weirdest part was stepping into that light tight room to load the film into the reel.
I say weird because I felt like I was doing something wrong by standing in that room with no light on xD
My mom told me how funny it was that the method has pretty much stayed the same after all these years.
I’ll say….
But next was the chemical washing. That was difficult too, but I made it through!
There were a few technical things that went wrong, so I think I’ll do another roll to improve on it. You live and learn, right?
Just today we learned how to print the images in the darkroom. That got me pretty excited!
I can’t wait to print some of my photos and show them! I just have to go and get my supplies first.. Lol
Overall, these two classes are proving very rewarding, but are gonna take a lotta lotta manual labor to get things right. I’m looking forward to it!
I’ll have to budget my time a lot better now though, that’s for sure
Anyways, thanks for reading this!
I will try to take more pictures sometime so you can actually see what’s involved.. mostly in my Letterpress class… cause I don’t know how many pictures I can get in the darkroom xD Haha
