Christmas is a time where I have definitely drawn and created things for friends, but it’s not often that I get asked to help co-create something as a gift for someone else’s friend instead. As an added challenge, the subject matter of this piece was out of my usual comfort zone. Instead of cute animals or anime characters, I was asked to draw a building. The Swan House in Atlanta, GA to be specific.

Originally what this person approached me for was if I could do a watercolor illustration of the building. I let them know that I wasn’t confident in my watercoloring skills, but I would be more than happy to help draw the building. This ended up working out, since she was pretty experienced with watercolors. I suppose it was just a coloring page commission in the end 😛

It has been a while since I’ve drawn a building. Luckily, the front of this building was pretty flat and symmetrical, so I didn’t have to worry about perspective. The main challenge was scaling the different features of the front of the building. From windows to trims.
In the end, I like how it turned out. It was also a nice change of pace from what I’ve been drawing a lot of lately.
