Asian elephants are indeed fascinating and hold a significant place in the history and culture of many countries.

There are three recognized subspecies of Asian elephants: the Indian elephant (Elephas maximus indicus), the Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus), and the Sri Lankan elephant (Elephas maximus maximus).

Among these, the Sri Lankan elephant is considered the largest subspecies.

They can reach a shoulder height of up to 3.5 meters (11 feet 5.79 inches) and weigh up to 5,500 kilograms (12,125 pounds)

This makes them the largest land animals in Asia.
Giants like Barana, Sando, or Katisa, the Sri Lankan elephants are generally the largest among the Asian elephant subspecies.

However, there have been reports of exceptionally large elephants in other regions, such as Raja Gaj from Nepal, which was known for its impressive size.

Asian elephants can grow quite large, with the Sri Lankan subspecies being the largest on average. Their size and majestic presence continue to captivate people across the world.
