An international seminar, ‘Global Sindhis & World Peace’ was held at Mumbai University

MUMBAI UNIVERSITY HOSTS AN INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

India – Mumbai: “Un-assuming nature and persistence of Dr. Baldev Matlani compels people like us to say yes, whenever he invites us to such literary events”, said Mr. Nanik Rupani, Chairman, Priyadarshni Academy. He further emphasized the importance of organizing such seminars to keep the flame of Sindhi language, burning forever.

Mr. Kumar Ailani, M.L.A. from Ulhasnagar congratulated Dr. Baldev Matlani for achieving such a great feat of inviting littérateurs from far flung areas, such as France, England and Mauritius. He also offered his assistance whenever there be any such need.

An international seminar, titled ‘Global Sindhis & World Peace’ was held at Kalina Campus, Mumbai University by its Department of Sindhi, on Monday, March 28, 2011. The papers presented were ‘Sindhi Literature & Sindh’, ‘The Case of Sindh in the context of Global Peace, Security and Role of Sindhi Diaspora’, ‘Role of Global Sindhis to promote World Peace’, ‘Impact of Global Sindhis in Diaspora’ and ‘Global Sindhis & World Peace, by different world renowned scholars who had come from various parts of the world, e.g. Dr. Michel Boivin (France), Dr. Rubina Greenwood & Dr. Suraiya Makhdoom (U.K.), Ashok Motwani (Mauritius) and were appropriately complimented by the host Dr. Baldev Matlani, Head of the Department of Sindhi, University of Mumbai. Every paper revealed a different facet and dimension of the above said theme. Its aim was not only to entertain but also aid to the literary knowledge of audience comprising varied groups. Different sessions were presided over by different literary luminaries, like Ranjit Butani, Chief Editor, Quarterly “Sindhishaan’; Dr. Dayal Asha, Retired Principal, CHM College, Ulhasnagar; Thakur Chawla, Editor ‘Sipoon’ and last but not the least Hiro Thakur, a well known Sahitya Akademi award winner.

The special feature of the seminar was a live interaction between audience and paper-presenters. Whosoever wanted to have any clarification, the writers put forth their point of view and satisfied all the queries of them. Prominent among the audience, who argued forcefully with the writers were Gopal Thakur, Rajkumar Kukreja (Bangalore) and Koshi Lalwani, a well-known singer from Dubai. The seminar proved to be a boon for the people who had burning thirst for Sindhi literature.
