[Indus Asia Online Journal Report] Toronto – Canada: Keeping the social, cultural and entertainment needs of Sindhi community in Toronto, Sindhi Association of North America (SANA) arranged and hosted the “Social, Cultural and Musical Programme” for the Sindhi Community living in Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on Saturday, June 6th 2009 at Golden Banquet Hall, 40-B, Hansen Road, Brampton, Ontario. This event was attended by scores of Sindhi-Canadian families. Mr. Abdul Razzaque Khushk, President SANA, GTA chapter welcomed and thanked all the participants in his introductory speech, and he especially thanked Mr. Gur Bux Singh Mali, MP of Bramlea and Malton area for coming and meeting with Sindhi community.
Honorable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, and Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism had especially sent their messages to Sindhi community of Greater Toronto Area which was read by Pam Gill, the future candidate of conservative party of springdale area.
Honourable Member parliament, Mr. Gur Bux Singh Mali, briefed about Sindh, Sindhi Language, Culture, Traditions and about the Sindhi Community in North America. In this way SANA, GTA chapter availed a chance to introduce Sindh and Sindhis at leadership level of Toronto.
In their messages, the Honorable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada and The Honourable Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism praised SANA and Sindhi-Canadian community for its positive role in the Canadian society. And congratulated the organizers of SANA, GTA chapter for their efforts to preserve and promote Sindhi culture with an event that fosters pride and community spirit.
Politician and MP Mr. Gur Bux Singh Mali also addressed the gathering and expressed the best wishes for the Community and Sindhi Association of North America.
CERTIFICATES & AWARDS
In order to appreciate their work, certificates of appreciations were given to some of the Sindhi community members who had devoted their whole of life for Sindh and Sindhi cause and some other members who had devoted time for volunteer work to SANA and Sindhi community. The editor of Indus Asia Online Journal, Fayaz Soomro, received the letter of appreciation for his work to create awareness about Sindh and Sindhis at the international level into global community. He also received the best writer and columnist award from President of SANA, Canada, Mr. Abdul Razzaque Khushk, in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
The senior members of SANA Toronto and volunteers, Mr. Shah Nawaz Shah, Mr. Rahim Khatri, Ms. Friah Riaz, Mr. Ghanshan Rajni, Mr. Abdul Jabbar Lashari, Mr. Dileep Ratnani, Iqbal Soomro, Mr. Nazir Baloch, Mr. Maqsood Soomro, Mr. Pitamber Lohano, Ms.Farzana Khowaja, Mr. Saleem Khowaja, Mr. Afzal Memon, Mr. Rajesh Rathi, Mr.Qudoos Soomro and other members received the letters of Recognition for their work and participation to the Sindhi-Canadian community . Scores of Sindhi families traveled from near by towns including Brampton, Georgetown, Mississauga, Scarborough, North York and other cities of Greater Toronto Area. Mr. Dileep Ratnani, General Secretary, SANA, GTA chapter presented a presentation about Sindh and Sindhis and he is also planning and organizing to arrange Free Eye camps by SANA in Thar and Badin districts. Humaira Rahman of WSI, also addressed the gathering she expressed her concern over the worsening human rights situation in Sindh and Balochistan and the rights of Sindh and appealed to work together for the cause of Sindh. Ms. Armaghan Soomro, the daughter of well known Sindhi humor writer and columnist Haleem Brohi and Mr. Aijaz Kolachi, the informations secratary, SANA, GTA have performed as stage secretary in the annual function.
DINNER – Dinner was served to participants of the event. In the end, a Musical party of Toronto performed. The Participants had a good time with friends and enjoyed a fun filled community night.
