The “Great Mother”

The Indus is one of the world’s great rivers.

From its headwaters in the Himalayas of Tibet, it flows north-west through India before turning sharply south across Pakistan. It finally discharges into the Arabian Sea, a journey of some 3,200km (2,000 miles). ….

… ..During a warm period 6,000 years ago, the Indus was a monster river, more powerful and more prone to flooding than today.

Then, 4,000 years ago, as the climate cooled, a large part of it simply dried up. Deserts appeared whether mighty torrents once flowed.

Professor Clift believes that this failure of the Indus may have triggered the collapse of the great Harappan civilisation.

The city ruins of Mohenjo-daro, a relict of this lost culture, date from the time when the rivers ran dry. …

India – Pakistan : people on both sides don’t want zero-sum game

Some Indians are very conflicted about Pakistan (as much as some Pakistanis are conflicted about India) and want to see it destroyed or hurt or at least begging for mercy. That is a stupid idea because India (or any other country for that matter) cannot do that to 180 million people without paying a price. On the other hand, some Pakistanis are equally unrealistic: they think the best way to make India behave better towards Pakistan is for Pakistan to stick sharp things up India’s whatever until India begs for mercy. The problem is with the whole notion that either country can actually force their will on the other. The problem is solved once you realize that reasonable people on both sides don’t want this zero-sum game and if they cooperate instead of trying to make each other cry uncle, then things can improve dramatically and no one needs to get hurt. Lets see if common sense (that the two countries share living space, culture, history and destiny and one cannot thrive while the other starves) prevails or not…

Thar means desert, barren and full of sand and mud heaps and mountains. Its history is very old and unaccountable. It starts from Badin at the Western and Southern side from Mirpur Khas at its Northern side, At its eastern side, it is the Indian territory .The last town at the Eastern Southern side is Nangar Parkar.

Sindhi Radio Program in Huston, USA

Houston Sindhi community once again starting a Sindhi program on local radio (http://www.kgol1180am.com/) 1180 AM starting from tomorrow Sunday 03-01-09 (12:00 pm to 1:00 pm) Central time. It is a volunteer based program & will promote Sindhi language, culture & its traditions. Tomorrow is just a introduction but from 03-08-09 will be a fully prepared program. All of Houston, Austin & san Antonio including Beaumont should be able listen the program.

Remembering Tajal Bewas

Culture Department has organized a reference and Mushairo to remember one of Sindh’s famous poet Tajal Bewas today at Liaqat Library, near PTV Station Karachi at 4 pm on 31-01-2009. Leading Sindhi poets and writers will share their litrary contribution. Though it is short notice but please do come to pay tribute to Tajal’s literary contribution.
