Washington: In a blunt warning to Pakistan, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao declared that India’s restraint should not be seen as weakness and that it can deal effectively with those pursuing “destructive agendas” against it. “Despite the provocations we have face constantly from terrorist whose linkages we have traced back to Pakistani soil, we have not abandoned the path of dialogue.” Rao said in an address Monday at the Woodrow Wilson center, a renowned Washington think tank. Rao said that like the US administration, “India, too, is concerned at the terror infrastructure that has been allowed to be established, take root and be used as instrument of state policy in our immediate neighborhood.” “Our heartland, our cities and our people are exposed to the threat of terrorism in constant and almost unremitting way in a manner the US well understands, given the similar threats directed against the American people,” she said… India will also not scale down operations in Afghanistan despite terror attacks on its interests, she said…

India : Promote & propagate Sindhi Culture
Need of the day for Sindhis in India – Promote & propagate Sindhi Vocal Culture
By Chand .P, forwarded by Asha Chand
The sole aim and goal of Sindhi Sangat is the promotion of Sindhi language, culture and heritage. The declining interest of the community in their own Sindhi culture, especially in the younger generation, is a matter of great concern. We feel that with greater emphasis on the use of modern electronic/visual media, we can hope to reverse this trend and promote vocal culture more emphatically. Sindhi Sangat is making a small contribution in this direction to put the above concept into action.
We launched “SINDHI SURHAAN” in 2007, a 30 min TV slot on Doordarshan. We have been producing high quality Sindhi Telefilms and other mixed TV episodes. We continue to telecast Sindhi Surhaan today from satellite TV Channels – DD Girnar (formerly called DD Gujarati) and DD India. Both the satellite TV channels can be viewed all over India . DD India has foot prints in 146 countries in the world.
Sindhi Telefilms have been also released as DVDs to reach out Sindhis worldwide. We have especially added subtitles in English, so that the telefilms also become the source of improving and polishing one’s knowledge of the language.
‘This is radio Pakistan from New delhi’
Our source of national pride
by Sana Saleem
Courtesy: Dawn.com
Nationalism is best understood in contrast to patriotism. Patriotism is simply love for one’s country, whereas nationalism is the sense that one’s nation is the best, often because it is more sacred than other nations. For the past few months, ‘Wake Up Pakistan’ – a campaign targeting this country’s youth – has been making waves both in the mainstream and social media.
The campaign aims to bring about an ideological revolution in Pakistan:
Pakistan today is in the eyes of the world, what we do and what we don’t will decide the future of Pakistan and the generations to come. We face internal and external threats which are shaking the very foundations of our motherland. Never before were we in such a dilemma, never before did our soil need us more and never before were we called upon to unite. We are not afraid but we are in danger. We have to WAKE UP!
The youth-oriented campaign promises to revive the ideology of the Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. Spearheaded by Zaid Hamid, and supported by fashion designer Maria B and popular rock-star Ali Azmat, the country-wide campaign has comprised lectures at various educational institutes and has gathered quite a fan following.
Hamid’s official fan page left me stunned, and not only because he has a striking 24,682 fans online. What’s really shocking is Hamid’s irresponsibility in the face of his popularity and broad-based access to Pakistani youth.
The latest update on the page reads: ”Inshallah one day you will hear this………’This is radio Pakistan from New delhi’.” Even more startling is the fact that Hamid’s fantasies of invading a neighbouring country were received with messages from young Pakistanis such as “Inshallah” and “we are eagerly waiting for that time!” Such statements contradict Hamid’s claims of reviving the ideology of Jinnah and Iqbal. Indeed, his anti-India stance makes the Wake Up Pakistan campaign delusional, provocative, and downright demagogical.

Kayani’s Tough warning to India
Tough Kayani warning to proponents of ‘adventurism’
By Iftikhar A. Khan

Addressing senior officers at the General Headquarters here, Gen Kayani said that the army was alive to the full spectrum of threat that continued to exist both in conventional and unconventional domains.
“War on terror” gravy train!
by Omar Ali
My take on the Pak army’s current position oscillates between Taqi’s opinion and the opinion of Dr. Manzur Ejaz. I was fully behind Dr. Manzur Ejaz this morning. But its getting late at night and I just saw Kamran Khan and so maybe its time to put on a more pessimistic hat…
Rationally, Dr. Saheb is one hundred percent right. The army has a huge stake in Pakistan’s economy. Pakistan’s economy has no future if we are in a state of near-war and proxy war with India, Pakistan’s economy has even less of a future if NATO regards Pakistan as an enemy instead of an ally. India’s economy is growing rapidly. Peace will allow Pakistan to attach on India’s growth. Given its lower population density, reasonable infrastructure in Punjab and Karachi, relatively homogeneous heartland, and favorable location (Iran-India pipeline, central Asian transit trade, easier to ship things from Karachi to East Punjab than it is to go via Gujarat, etc.) Pakistan can actually start making serious money relatively quickly and that means the army will make money. China is also focused on economic growth and trade between India and China is exploding. Pakistan can get a share in all that. The peace dividend, in other words, is real and almost immediate.
Meanwhile, the jihadis are certifiably insane and are already a huge threat to the Pakistani state. America, NATO, Japan, Korea, all will pay good money to go after them and the job will take so many years, the army has no reason to worry that its “war on terror” gravy train will dry up anytime soon. Socially, Pakistan is not really ready for Jihadists rule. The jihadis have absolutely no workable program for a modern state….the case for ditching the jihadis and making peace with India seems open and shut. (Of course, INDIA may not cooperate either, but we are focusing right now on what the Pak army is thinking).
So are there some reasons to doubt this rational analysis?
1. The army may calculate (miscalculate in my opinion, but who said they cannot miscalculate?) that peace with India will deprive them of their ability to keep everyone else in Pakistan under their thumb. Or (even more stupidly) that it will deprive Pakistan of its reason for existence.
2. Some geniuses in NDU spend their life looking at rivers on the map and writing position papers about how Pakistan will shrivel and die if we don’t “have Kashmir”. Outsiders tend to think this his just the usual institute of strategic studies bullshit, but I have yet to meet an army officer who did not wholly or partly believe this. All sorts of other gory details about evil devious Hindu Brahmans and their determination to eat every last Muslim baby are added as needed. Again, outsiders tend to think this is “just propaganda” and expect that the army can distinguish between genuine maniacs like Babu Bajrangi and mainstream Indian politicians, but maybe the outsiders are giving the army too much credit? As you may know, even senior army officers seem to believe this propaganda by the time they have had a few drinks. This is an old hazard in the world of propaganda: the propagandists tend to fall for their own propaganda, especially when they live in some echo chamber where alternative views don’t get in anyway.
3. Some in the army and its “think tanks” (Shireen Mazari?) may think that it is more rational to destroy India before it becomes a serious power, and they may imagine that their BFFs in China actually want the same. It does’nt matter if Wen Jia bao doesnt actually think in these terms. What matters is that Shireen Mazari and General Tinpot bahadur imagine that the Chinese want this to happen. Dr. Manzur Ejaz is a sane person, but far too many Pakistani army officers are listening to Zaid Hamid and Ahmed Qureshi, not Dr Manzur Ejaz. What if they take those nutcases seriously?
4. The problem of true believers. Again, outsiders tend to think that Islam and the whole neo-wahabi paradigm are basically means to an end. Tools used by the Pak army to get its goodies, just like Republican candidates use evangelical Christianity. But what if a lot of people in high places actually believe that Allah is waiting for them to unite the Ummah and lead it in its eternal struggle against the infidels?
5. There is the issue of some events that don’t make a lot of sense if the jihadi option is actually being shut down: the determined refusal to launch frontal propaganda against the jihadis; the fact that ISI mouthpieces are constantly working to stir up anti-American and anti-Indian feelings and spreading confusion about the jihadi menace; The attack on Mumbai and the determined effort to present it as some kind of Indian plot; The mysterious survival of all senior jihadi leaders; Masood Azhar; Daood Ibrahim; Ahmed Saeed Shiekh; Haqqani network; Fazlullah, etc. And the line taken by army spokesmen like Kamran Khan; Shireen Mazari….too many loose ends…
5. Finally, there is the issue of nutcases. Every nation has some maniacs who need to be kept in asylums or employed in low level police jobs or as prison guards in Texas. If this kind of person makes it to some place where they can plan another attack on Mumbai, then all bets are off.
Dr. T has mentioned the Nazis. The sophisticated, highly civilized German nation ruined Germany and all of Europe in 12 short years of Nazi rule. At some level, Hitler’s initial actions seemed rational. Rationalists fully expected that he would also know where to draw the line. They were proven terribly wrong. What if the true believers are not thinking of means but ends?
I look forward to being proved wrong.

Support our Sindhi brothers and sisters in India in their struggle to create the Sindh state
by:Khalid Hashmani, McLean, Virginia
… I appeal to all Sindhis of the world including Sindhis in Sindh to support our Sindhi brothers and sisters in India in their struggle to create the Sindh state. Although, many Sindhis living in India have supported the Rights Movement of Sindhi people in Sindh, most have shown apathy towards Sindhi causes and Sindhi language. This proposal offers an opportunity for two Sindhi groups living in different countries to work for common cause.
I am hopeful that Indian Sindhis and Pakistani Sindhis would strongly support each other and under-take joint projects to promote the use of Sindhi language and protect Sindhi heritage.

Background and controversial claims:
The long awaiting Kashmir conflict is a mixture of theoretical and hypothetical assumptions miss communicated, supported and propagated by both Indian and Pakistani ruling elites since six decades. Pakistan, India & Bangladesh : South Asian train service proposal
Pakistan’s nod for South Asian train service proposal
Islamabad: Pakistan’s Railways Ministry has “technically approved” an Indian proposal to launch a South Asian train service linking Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan and forwarded it to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Commerce for further evaluation. The proposal was floated by the Indian Railways two weeks ago, the Dawn quoted officials as saying. Experts had acknowledged the potential of the South Asian route and they see it as “more easy to operate,” the officials said. The three countries have broad gauge tracks and their operating systems are similar. Officials of the Railways Ministry said experts had suggested that the Dhaka-Delhi-Lahore train service was “viable in all respects.” The service could be extended to Karachi or Islamabad if the need arose, they said. “The initial trials would be container operations followed by passenger services,” said a report prepared by experts. The Indian proposal came in the backdrop of reports that the Economic Cooperation Organization planned to launch an Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul train service.

Is Baluchistan becoming another East Pakistan?
by Kuldip Nayar, India
Courtesy: The Sunday Times
Islamabad faces today practically the same situation in Baluchistan as it did in East Pakistan. The former is as increasingly getting alienated from Pakistan as was Bangladesh in the midst of liberating itself. The army was supreme then as it is today in Baluchistan. Zulfikhar Ali Bhutto, then heading the Pakistan People Party (PPP), was backing the shocking methods of the army, no different from the ones adopted against Bangladesh.

Robin Hood of Sindh – Kadu Makrani
Let us remember our heroes that have been forgotten by us but they continue to remembered by others!
by Khalid Hashmani, McLean, Virginia, USA
Here comes another legend from neighboring Kathiawar who is a celebrated hero in Gujrat. A Gujrati film “Kadu Makrani” pays tribute to his bravery and sacrifice. Kadu Makrani is buried in Karachi, Sindh but is remembered in Gujrat and Balochistan, hundreds of miles away. Attached is a short story from Wikipedia that talks about this legendary hero, who fought with British with honor and bravery. He was later captured in Karachi and hanged by British.
—
[From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia] Qadir Bukhsh Rind Baloch alias Kadu Makrani was a 19th century’s archetypal figure who was born and brought up in Makran, Balochistan. He rose as an insurgent in Kathiawar, Gujarat, martyred and buried in Karachi, Sindh in 1878. His final resting place in Mewah Shah Graveyard (Lyari) which has become the center of inspiration today. He is also remembered as the eastern Robin Hood.

A new era of Indo-Pak dialogue
Both countries ready to take bold decisions
WASHINGTON – The Indo-Pakistan peace process has stood the test of the time. Now it’s unlikely to be sabotaged, according to political analysts. They said both countries are set for what they called the meaningful dialogue to resolve their disputes through peaceful method. Both India and Pakistan are now willing to take bold decisions to ease tension in the region, analysts said. In this connection they referred to Manmohan Singh’s recent statement and said the Indian Prime Minister strongly defended his joint statement with his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani.
State of Union of Pakistan 62 years later
By Khalid Hashmani, USA
Can any Pakistani honestly say that Pakistan has turned out to be the country that they or their fathers had envisioned 62 years ago? Even among the privileged class such as military and civilian bureaucracy, who have been the primary beneficiaries of what has cooked and re-cooked in Pakistan, would admit that it is not all fair in Pakistan. Many Baloch demonstrated on the 62nd Independence Day under the banner that said, “De-celebrating the Pakistan’s Independence Day”. Many Sindhis either stayed out of the Independence Day celebrations or made comments such as “Pakistan Zindabad. Jeay Sindh Dharti. May Allah this year give true autonomy to all provinces so all can live in peace” or “May Allah bless all people of Pakistan and show right path to the leaders.” “30 Lakh Bangaliyoon ka qat’l Mubarik, Hazaroon Balouchoon ke Laa’sh Mubarik, Senkroon Sindhi Ma’aoon kee Ujree Jholia’an ke Mubarak”, and “I am a Sindhi – a Hindu Sindhi, with roots in Hyderabad, Sindh, in modern day Pakistan. I cannot celebrate the creation of Pakistan – because August the 14th stands as a reminder that my family was uprooted”. The world calls Pakistan as the “hub for planning and training terrorists and global terrorism”. Hundreds of Pakistanis are dying each month on account of terrorism. Minorities feel unsafe and common men and women feel oppressed. Indeed, one wonders what went wrong and why it went wrong and what can be done to steer Pakistan on the right path? This article attempts to answer both of these questions.

Pakistan competing in Afghanistan with India
WASHINGTON DIARY: Competing in Afghanistan
by: Dr Manzur Ejaz, USA
Courtesy: Wichaar.com, August 11th, 2009
Pakistan has a certain potential edge over India because of the Pashtuns living on both sides of the border. However, Pakistan will have to use the Pashtun card differently than it has done in the past. While Pakistan failed in its delusionary policy of gaining strategic depth in Afghanistan, India is gaining broad and deep influence there. Investments of $1.6 billion and its dominance of every economic sector of Afghanistan will give India long lasting influence. And Pakistan’s Taliban proxies may not be a sufficient policy tool to balance Indian influence.
India has already constructed the 218-km Zaranj-Delaram highway to use as an alternative for Indo-Afghan trade in case Pakistan does not allow its territory to be used for the purpose. Besides building the Afghan Parliament, India has donated three Airbus airliners to Ariana, 400 buses for the public transportation system, and 105 vehicles for the Kabul municipality. India has heavily invested in several power generation projects as well, including a solar plant for the electrification of a hundred villages.

The ashes of Karachi Hindus can finally be immersed in the Ganga. But what of the mortal remains of Hindus in the rest of Pakistan?
By: Amar Guriro, Karachi, Sindh
More than sixty years after Partition, sealed borders and complicated visa procedures continue to separate thousands of families in India and Pakistan – even to impact the dead. Since the two countries tightened already-cumbersome visa procedures in the aftermath of the war of 1971, Pakistani Hindus have been unable to take the remains of loved ones for immersion in the Ganga at Haridwar.

Religion of the Sindhis
Religion of the Sindhis (as recorded a century ago..)
– Gul Agha’s Notes
From Hastings (ed.), Encyclopedia of Religion and Ethics (vol. 11, ca 1912). The section is written by a Prof. W. Crooke and is annotated by a number of citations and quotes. So what does an external, turn of the century, observer have to say: The province is distinguished from the other parts of India by the great predominance of Muhammadans, who, at the time of the census of 1911 amounted to 75.14%.. Hindus being 23.83% and the balance made up of animists, Christians, Parsis, Jews, and the so-called Hindu-Mohammadans, who follow both creeds.”

They are the Gods of Jains. Tirthankaras are also known as Arihants or Jinas.
