Campaign for Sindhi TV channel on Doordarshan India

– Asha Chand

We all agree that Sindhi language can be best promoted today through Television. We need DD Sindhi Channel.[why? See the reasons given below] The great news is that Dada Ram Jethmalani, our Sindhu Ratna and the Leader of our Sindhi community has taken up this issue with the Government of India and has agreed to lead actively. He along with Asha Chand had a detailed meeting with the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Anand Sharma, who has responded positively.

Ram Jethmalani’s recent interview in this connection was shown on in Sindhi Surhaan TV program. In this interview Ram Jethmalani has taken the responsibility of taking up this difficult task of getting dedicated TV channel Sindhis. Sindhi language is enshrined in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_languages_of_India#The_languages_of_the_Eighth_Schedule_to_the_Constitution ).

Hence, the Government of India is duty bound to promote Sindhi language.

Sindhi is now the ONLY language in the above Schedule (out of 22 Languages listed in the schedule) which does not have a DD Channel.(A dedicated Doordarshan TV channel from Govt of India )

Sindhi Sangat sent a petition to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting in December 2007.

This topic was raised at many Sindhi forums and seminars / discussions. This petition was signed and commented by over

2000 Sindhis on our Website http://www.sindhisangat.com. Leading Sindhi Associations and organizations have come together to take

up this issue.

We call upon all Sindhis to join the campaign and strengthen the hands of Shri Ram Jethmalani in this matter.

Please fax your demend for a DD Sindhi TV Channel to Shri Anand Sharma on 009111 23794587

Please forward this mail to other Sindhis for information, involvement to make DD-Sindhi TV Channel a reality.

Yours in the service of Sindhi Language, Heritage and Culture

  6. I’m a Tamil and I STRONGLY support for a DD Sindhi Channel. Its grossly unfair to my Sindhi brothers. Beside the tamil language, sindhi is also the oldest living language in the world.

The Gov of India have a duty to fulfil this quickly. We are waiting.

  8. Sindhi Channel should be there on DD. Since every language has its own channel, we feel unjustified, neglected and uncredited when we don’t see our channel. This will make our children know the richness of our culture, make them feel accepted and credited for nation building efforts.

  9. I do believe that Sindhi channel has to be there on DD. Since each and every language has its own channel, we feel neglected, unjustified and uncredited without Sindhi channel. Sindhi channel will make us feel motivated and accepted. This channel will show our children the richness of our culture and make them proud.

  10. I am a proud Sindhi. I do believe that we require Sindhi channel to promote our culture and tradition. As Sindhi language is the only language in 8th Schedule of constitution of India which does not have DD Channel.
I think each one of us should add efforts to promote for this campaign.
