PAKISTAN: The ritual abuse and naked humiliation of three women casts
Received via email – faheem_yas@yahoo.com
The violent humiliation of three women reported from Punjab this week has thrown stark light on the complicity of the police and the courts in gender-based crimes — and on the continued degeneration of law enforcement in the region. This week three woman accused of prostitution were forced to parade naked through their neighborhood and onto a local highway; they were stripped and physically tormented under the direction of a man who leads a banned militant organisation.

PAKISTAN: A human rights activist faces terrorism charges for publicising the murder of Christians, while the mullahs who incited the violence remain free
To: The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Islamabad
Name of the Victim: Mr. Tariq Mehmood, son of Mohammad Tufail Ansari. Resident of village Basti Danishmandan, Chak no. 264, G-B, district Toba Tek Singh, Punjab
Names of the perpetrators: 1. DSP, Toba Tek Singh district. 2. SHO, Toba Tek police station, Punjab 3. DPO, Toba Tek district, Punjab, Pakistan
I am writing to register my deep concern regarding the arrest of Tariq Mehmood, an activist working for the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and the Labour Party of Pakistan, on charges of terrorism and disturbing the peace. The charges disproportionately refer to demonstrations he helped arrange after the burning murders of a number of Christians, and the burning of their houses by Muslim extremists. Police have not arrested those who incited the violence using the loudspeakers of mosques, which is illegal in Pakistan.

NEW DELHI – Inida’s police force has been accused of extrajudicial killings, torture and carrying out illegal detentions, human rights campaigners have said. “India’s status as the world’s largest democracy is undermined by a police that thinks it is above the law,” Brad Adams, Asia Director of Human Rights Watch (HRW), said on Tuesday. Indian police continue to use their old methods: abuse and threats…

Shameful attack on poor Christians
by: Iqbal Tareen, Washington, DC
August 2, 2009 – I condemn this barbaric attack on unarmed and peaceful Christian people of Pakistan. It is a shameful act, which reveals an alarming mindset emerging out of an Islamic extremism that has been brewing in Pakistan for decades especially after the advent of Zia era. Right wing political parties and state agencies have been busy perpetuating various internal and external hot spots to justify their consolidation of power and to divert attention from the real issues faced by 160 million peoples of Pakistan.
I urge progressive forces in Pakistan and around the world to become a formidable force and rise against the forces of hate and evil. Let us embrace diversity in Pakistan and create an environment where peoples of Pakistan are not judged by their color, nationality, ethnic background or a religious faith passed onto them by their ancestors just like a color of skin or a chattel.
Let us make Pakistan an inclusive country – a nation of many nations. Let us promote brotherhood and sisterhood, progressive people to stand like a shield of steel between the forces of pillage and destruction and the noble causes of 160 million innocent peoples of Pakistan who are yearning for peace, prosperity, individual and collective dignity, justice and democracy. The time has come to take politics out of the business of religion and religion out of the business of politics.
Full opportunity for full development is the inalienable right of all. He who denies it is a tyrant, he who does not demand it is a coward, he who does no desire it is a slave. The earth for all the people-that’s the demand! Eugene V. Debs
Employees of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited?
It is due respect that I am a law abiding Sindhi citizen of Pakistan . My ancestors were in thought that after creation of Pakistan their social, political, economical and cultural condition and fate would be changed. They will be honored and get a chance to be sophisticated and virtuous citizen of Pakistan, but their romance is shattered and has been lost in the realm of Punjab empire with sharing Pathans and Mohajars- that troika is omnipotent everywhere.
In 1993 Pakistan Peoples Party government under the Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto had appointed 5,000 educated youths of Sindh and Balochistan in Sui Southern Gas Company in accordance with rules and regulations during the period from 1st November 1993 to 30th November 1996, but they were removed from service from November 1, 1996 to December 31, 1998 on purely prejudiced basis in the government of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz Sharif). It was clearly action of apartheid to Sindhies.

May 30, 2009 — With millions of jobs lost during the first part of 2009, who is calling for a shorter work week to spread the work around? Not the Republicans. Not even the Democrats. But why is there nary a peep from unions?

There was news about burying 5 women from Baluchistan quite a few months ago who were still alive in the they were first beaten by 17 tribesmen, and then hit by the speeding tractor with the blade in front. As if it were not enough, the shattered skulls women were then dragged by the tractor blade into a ditch, and buried alive.

Shameful.. shocking. .horrifying… Un-Islamic of course.
by Mirza
I saw the video on Geo TV… have been under shock the whole day… like so many others. I feel her as a member of our family… the man who went with her probably was not punished. I saw another cultural stigma…. She was shouting… Leave me.. Meree tauba meree maan ki tauba….. Since FATHERS in that culture do not apologies.
I received an unofficial information (though this was off the record, but the person reporting was reliable)… Some Talib has proposed her and the girl had refused.. and she was pinned down as soon as they got some opportunity.

Girl Beaten in Swat by our so called Sharia Leaders
(Please see English Dubbed video translation also I tried ) IF THIS VIDEO IS REAL AND NOT PROPAGANDA AGAINST PAKISTAN THEN THIS IS EVIL.ITS CANCER WHICH WILL EVENTUALITY RESULT IN TERMINAL STAGE FOR PAKISTAN This grainy footage appears to show a 17-year-old girl being beaten by Islamic radicals in Pakistan’s northwestern region of Swat, where Sharia law was introduced after the government reached a truce with the Taliban in February. I just called friends/family in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Islamabad. Reaction against the barbarism is fierce in Karachi and Lahore, muted in Islamabad, and subdued in Quetta. The last is in virtual control of Taliban.
They are begging for support, naturally asking us to write to congress men, senators, the state department.
When I offered that we will write to Pakistan embassy too, they laughed with derision, and used terminology, not suited for mixed company. The bigot groups have said not a word. Before this outrage, the new Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Munawwar Hasan had actually demanded that Swat Shariah be imposed all over Pakistan. If we do not act now, Pakistan will become Afghanistan..

Taliban beating the girl mercilessly, click here to see the video
This is shocking and makes me ashamed that this is happening in the same country of which Sindh is also a part. I am angry as hell! These beasts and their supporters have no shame and their hearts are devoid of peaceful teachings of Islam. Beating mercilessly the poor woman on the pretext that “She came out of her house with another guy who was not her husband” is barbaric and it is obvious they do not live in past and are bent upon destruction and treating people with such cruelty.
May Allah punish these beasts if the government lacks the courage to save the wretched country of Pakistan from these barbarians.

Wichaar is facing a serious problem in Pakistan. It is randomly blocked and then unblocked. We have not yet determined if the authorities are giving us warning signals or it is a technical problem.
When Wichaar gets blocked in Pakistan it is fine everywhere else. We have checked with the service provider in the US and they say it is not related to them. We have tried to check in Pakistan service providers and they have no clues. So, we yet don’t know if the authorities are playing games with us or something else. We will keep you posted. If you know anything about it please inform/advise us at whichaar@gmail.com

… As Palestinans die, we all suffer, but at some stage one has to ask, what have been doing wrong that even after 60 years we do not see anyhting other than sloganeering and suffering of common people. And now we hear the dead Hamas leader died alongisde two of his four wives. Is this how national liberation movement have been led anywhere else? Four wives?
Cultural diversity means that the population is drawn from many cultural backgrounds, representing a wide range of beliefs and traditions. Multiculturalism ensures that all citizens can keep their cultural identies, take pride in their ancestry. Canada’s experience with diversity has taught us to accept and respect different views. This has made Canada an effective international mediator. With so much violence in the world fuelled by racial, religious, and ethnic intolerance, Canada is regularly asked for advice and help with conflit resolution and human rights.
Canada stands as a proof that it is possible for the world’s many races, religions, and cultures to live together and Canada showes the world that different people can accept and respect one another.
DAWN Editorial says Religious Sectarianism is Eating away Pakistan’s Foundations
By Khalid Hashmani, McLean, Virginia
The hard-hitting editorial in today’s DAWN newspaper points out how religious sectarianism is degenerating Pakistani society. So much so, that few dare to question large religious groups who have or in in the process of imposing their values on smaller groups. Even the famous and otherwise known as courageous icons of the society stand meekly and shy away from criticizing larger militant groups.
Should we or could we resist the elements that are hijacking Pakistani society and imposing their beliefs forcibly?
