M.Q.M. is allegedly involved in a number of high profile killlings of Urdu-speaking leaders

MQM terrorists kill Karachi organizer of National Party

By: Ahmar Mustikhan, Baltimore Foreign Policy Examiner

Terrorists allegedly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement gunned down a Baloch political organizer in Karachi Monday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Yaqoob Baloch, 45, Karachi Divisional organizer of the National Party. The deceased was an employee of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation and a resident of Old Golimar.

“He was at his office at Nazimabad No. 1 when the killers came there and asked him if he was Yaqoob. When he replied ‘yes’ they shot and killed him,” Hameed Baloch, Sindh organizer of the National Party said.

He said identity of the killers are not known, but suspected that they belonged to the militant M.Q.M. as the area is the party’s stronghold.

Nothing to see here…

This link will take you to a post in “Longwarjournal“, which may be described as a neocon site, though their own description of their mission is, as expected, more flattering.  Without shooting the messenger, try to watch some of the videos linked therein. We will continue with comments after you have done so.

OK.

Now, in the proper “high art” tradition (Luis Bunuel did it and every highly educated person is supposed to love him) I will show you one of the videos, after earlier implying that I was not going to expose you directly to this macabre theater.

Actually, its not graphic till you get to minute 3. I suggest stopping short of minute three if the sight of soldiers heads displayed on a white sheet is more offensive to you than the people who did it.

Next, to analysis. Why has this caused remarkably little fuss in Pakistan (where Imran Khan is having middle-class heart attacks at the very thought of Raja Rental as his prime minister)?  And why am i posting “death porn” on a family website?

A. Little Fuss. People (not just liberals, even conservatives are bitten by this bug) are looking for deep explanations. Deep explanations are redundant when shallow ones explain the observed phenomenon with sufficient reliability and validity. Here are the shallow reasons (I can think of more, but I really have to run):

1. Outrage about enemies of the state (in any country) can be built up form existing material by the national security establishment. Our national security establishment is in the middle of a very delicate negotiation with NATO. Blanket outrage over this would provide assistance to NATO in their negotiating position. So, while its sad and terrible, it does have to be ignored in the higher national interest. Some outrage CAN be directed against NATO and Afghanistan, but even that has to be calibrated, these things can get out of hand. (and GHQ knows a thing or two about things getting out of hand).

2. The dead are humble soldiers. Even officers up to brigadier rank are a dime a dozen. A general has to be robust. (in military academies and staff colleges, they teach you that a good general is “robust”. He doesnt lose his focus just because a few thousand of his own people are dead. Napoleon was extremely robust. So was Mao).

3, The dead may also be mostly Pashtoons from the poorer section of society. While these are the most outstanding of men; honest, hard-working, honorable, self-confident… not calculating and grasping “Indus man and Ganges man” type poor folk, who bow before superiors and kick inferiors for sport (in this sentence, I am dead serious…i grew up knowing some) they are not family.

Its a fact of life. Just like the NLI soldiers in Kargil (Baltistanis) or Hazaras in Quetta (not only are they Shia, they even look different…while that is not as clear a difference as the color-coding that set “us and them” apart in the America of yore (among other places), it does make it easier to identify those who are us and those who are not).

4. The taliban cut off heads and display them on sheets!

Imran Farooq murder: the bloody past of the MQM

The party of Imran Farooq, who has been assassinated in London, has a dark reputation that it has never left behind

by Declan Walsh in Islamabad

It is one of the great enigmas of Pakistani politics. For over 18 years the affairs of Karachi, the country’s largest city and thrumming economic hub, have been run from a shabby office block more than 4,000 miles away in a suburb of north London.

The man at the heart of this unusual situation is Altaf Hussain, a barrel-shaped man with a caterpillar moustache and a vigorous oratorical style who inspires both reverence and fear in the sprawling south Asian city he effectively runs by remote control.

Hussain is the undisputed tsar of the mohajirs, the descendents of Muslim migrants who flooded into Pakistan during the tumult of partition from India in 1947, and who today form Karachi’s largest ethnic group.

A firebrand of student politics, Hussain galvanized the mohajirs into a potent political force in 1984, when he formed the Mohajir Qaumi Movement – now known as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, or MQM. The party swept elections in the city in 1987 and 1988 but quickly developed a reputation for violence.

At early rallies Hussain surrounded himself with gunmen and urged supporters to “sell your VCRs and buy kalashnikovs”; violence later erupted between the MQM and ethnic Sindhi rivals and, later, against the army, which deployed troops to Karachi in the early 1990s. …

Relatives of a passed away IDP carry his or her dead body from place to place in search of kind people who will allow the body to be buried in their graveyard. MQM is trying to shift a Muhajir-Pashtoon wedge to Sindhis

by Iqbal Tareen, Washington

Let me join Khalid Hashmani in applauding Sindh Qomi Mahaz (JSQM) for its gallant and timely historic protest. I must also commend the conference called by AT, which raised very important issues. I was very happy to see the the religious right totally absent from this event. Here is a very sincere and candid advice for Sindh Qomi Mahaz (JSMQ) and others. MQM is trying to shift a Muhajir-Pashtoon wedge to Sindhis. It is incumbent upon JSQM and other Sindh Rights movements in Sindh and overseas to make a clear distinction that Sindh was never and can never be against the nation of Ghafar Khan who had eternal ties with Sindh and her national leaders. Sindhis are all for the right of self-governance of Pakhtoonkhwa. We just don’t want our nation to be subjected to ethnic re-engineering and reduced to insignificant minority. JSQM should show its guts to expose an ethnic organization of Karachi and its betrayal in painting Sindhis as Pashtoon haters.

THIS IS VERY CRITICAL FOR SINDHIS GOING FORWARD… We are against Taliban not Pashtoons. Taliban come in all races, nationalities, sizes, and ethnicities. Many of today’s Taliban are successors of Jamaat’s para-militay forces Al-Badr and Al-Shams who were forward blocks of the West Pakistan army in East Pakistan.

Remember my friends, Pashtoons and other ethnic minorities in Karachi are vital deterrent to MQM’s runaway absolute power. Do not lose this goodwill. Make it clear we are not against them and other ethnic groups but against agencies’ cheap tactics to set Sindhis and Pashtoons against each other by shoving mass migration into our homeland.

Islamic or un-Islamic? You decide.

Shameful.. shocking. .horrifying… Un-Islamic of course.

by Mirza

I saw the video on Geo TV… have been under shock the whole day… like so many others. I feel her as a member of our family… the man who went with her probably was not punished. I saw another cultural stigma…. She was shouting… Leave me.. Meree tauba meree maan ki tauba….. Since FATHERS in that culture do not apologies.

I received an unofficial information (though this was off the record, but the person reporting was reliable)… Some Talib has proposed her and the girl had refused.. and she was pinned down as soon as they got some opportunity.

Real possibility of Taliban take over of Pakistan

WASHINGTON DIARY: The advancing enemy (Real possibility of Taliban take over of Pak) Daily Times

Rulers averse to an independent judiciary and an equitable socio-economic order; an economic upper class hostile to paying its fair share in taxes; self-obsessed intellectuals and media persons; and a poverty-stricken population – this presents the perfect mix for the forces of destruction.

Terrorism can’t be fought with terrorism

Mumbai Tragedy and its impact on Pak-India Relationship

Terrorism has no nationality or a religion

by: Iqbal Tareen, USA

Our brothers and sisters in India became victims of the similar insane and inhuman attacks that our people in Pakistan have been subjected to for a long time. The blood of innocent men, women, and children that is shed in both countries makes us brothers and sisters in blood.

Our common enemy is trying to turn our nations into a cloud of smoke. Can we find common grounds to fight back this threat? There are political groups in both countries, which are taking an unholy advantage of this tragedy to settle their own narrow political and ethnic accounts.

We know terror can’t be fought with terror just the way you can’t wash dirt with the dirt. We also know every Pashtoon is not a terrorist and every terrorist is not a Pashtoon. We can’t allow gang violence in Pakistan to substitute state power and legal governance.

This is a wake up call for all who have decided to take a sideline. History will not absolve them and will remember them with an unkind headline. I urge you to join us in this historic meeting of Forum for Justice and Democracy at Sadaf Restaurant, 1327 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852 to take a stand against violence and terror.

Join us to send a strong message that we are watching and so is the world. We will not tolerate intolerance that continues setting communities and nations against each other.
