Has not Sindh given birth to any Economist?

By Zulfiqar Halepoto, Hyderabad, Sindh
I still remember the words of dictator Musharraf that Sindhis are in-efficient. His replacement by a Sindhi President is the spongiest revenge of his hatred, ethnic and racist biases against Sindhis.

But unfortunately some decisions of the present regime shows that some of their non-Sindhi policy makers follow the statement of Musharraf, especially in some key economic and social fields.

Let me quote one here. Economic crisis is the most critical crisis of Pakistan and the team of financial managers and economic experts, who are going to negotiate with the donors, international community and financial institutors doesn’t have a single Sindhi representative in any major body.

The advisory panel of Pakistan’s senior economists (for Abu Dhabi moot, the Friends of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi meetings, and annual sessions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington) constituted by the Planning Commission is comprised of Dr Hafiz Pasha, Dr Rashid Amjad, Dr Akmal Hussain, Dr Naveed Hamid, Ijaz Nabi, Dr Qazi Masood, Asad Saeed, Haris Gazdar, RiazRiazuddin, Dr Cheema and Saqib Shirani. Most of the names are theoreticians.

I wonder, Sindh has people like Fazaulullah Qureshi, Nazar Shaikh, Dr Rajab Memon, Dr Nawaz Hakro, Dr Pervaiz Pathan, Dr Shabnam Shalwani, Ali Nawaz Memon, Professor Mushtaq Mirani, Professor Aijaz Qureshi, Dr Abida Tahrani, Dr Nawaz Chand, Dr Ali Akbar Dhakan, Dr Rafiq Chandio, etc but they perhaps are not in the good books of those policy makers.

Does Sindh not has social development practitioners and policy experts..???

There is an impression that from Dr. Asim to Salman Farooqi some visionless people are controlling Sindh and their only merit is being “LOYAL LIEUTENANTS” of our president.

Shall we allow them to take Sindh for granted?????

Friends as you know that present regime is the product of the sacrifice of Pakistan’s finest daughter, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and people do expect the fulfillment of all the commitments, Shaheed BB made with the people of Pakistan and especially of Sindh.
It is an open secret that Sindh was the worst victim of Musharraf and MQM tyranny rule in Sindh and we all fought against that tyranny and supported PPP as the leading democratic political force of Sindh and Pakistan. And now do expect a fair-play with Sindh and Sindhi people.

  1. for me it is surprising that can issue such type of statement. He has classified highly educated economists of Pakistan and Sindh on basis of language. He even don’t realize that there is no Punjabi on high level ruling posts (President, Prime Minister, Speaker, D Speaker, Foreign Minster, Information Minister……..). It is not right approach to weigh eligibility of people.

I don’t know whether all economists in Governments advisory panel are non-Sindhi and in the list proposed, all are Sindhi OR Sindhi Speaking but i know that “Sindhi President” is not Sindhi but a Baloch. Muhatrama Shaheed Rani and her party never relied on ethnic politics. Let us come out of ethnic politics because elections in Pakistan showed that ethnic politics is failed. Work for poor, marginalised regardless the language, caste boundaries.
