Wind power

There is an urgent need to develop alternative ways to produce and deliver energy. We must replace methods that are inefficient, rely on non-renewable resource, cause environmental problems.  Windh power has enormous potential to build clean, renwable energy generating facilities, companies are getting behind the development of wind power. When the wind blows, it turns huge propeller blades and generates electricity. The best places to put wind farms are in coastal areas.

The Chinese were using wind power 4000 years ago to pump water for irrigation. In the Middle Ages, wind power was used to turn mills to grind corn: that is how we got the word windmill.

The wind is free and we have an endless supply. There is no waste and nno pollution. Wind power is an effective way to provide power. Wind farms can be tourist attrations.

HOW MULTICULTURALISM BENEFIT US?

Cultural diversity means that the population is drawn from many cultural  backgrounds, representing a wide range of beliefs and traditions. Multiculturalism ensures that all citizens can keep their cultural identies, take pride in their ancestry. Canada’s experience with diversity has taught us to accept and respect different views. This has made Canada an effective international mediator. With so much violence in the world fuelled by racial, religious, and ethnic intolerance, Canada is regularly asked for advice and help with conflit resolution and human rights.

Canada stands as a proof that it is possible for the world’s many races, religions, and cultures to live together and Canada showes the world that different people can accept and respect one another.

SMART HEART: Scientists develop artificial heart that beats like the real thing

By Adam Sage in Paris
An artificial heart that beats almost exactly like the real thing is to be implanted in patients within three years in a trial that may offer hope to heart disease sufferers unable to receive a transplant.

The device, which uses electronic sensors to regulate the heart rate and blood flow, was developed by Alain Carpentier, France’s leading cardiac surgeon, and engineers from the group that makes Airbus aircraft. Presented yesterday, it was described by its inventors as the closest thing yet to the human heart. “If you show the graphs to a cardiac surgeon, he will say it’s a human heart,” Professor Carpentier said. “But no, it’s not a human heart, it’s the prosthesis.”

He said that he had spent two decades on the project because “I found it intolerable to see young people – aged 40, 45 or 50 – dying of massive heart attacks without having a prosthesis available to replace their hearts”.

The French announcement is the latest in a race by doctors to produce a device that could be fitted into the 20,000 patients a year worldwide who are unable to receive a life-saving heart transplant because of a shortage of donors.

Should we or could we resist the elements that are hijacking Pakistani society and imposing their beliefs forcibly?

DAWN Editorial says Religious Sectarianism is Eating away Pakistan’s Foundations

By Khalid Hashmani, McLean, Virginia

The hard-hitting editorial in today’s DAWN newspaper points out how religious sectarianism is degenerating Pakistani society. So much so, that few dare to question large religious groups who have or in in the process of imposing their values on smaller groups. Even the famous and otherwise known as courageous icons of the society stand meekly and shy away from criticizing larger militant groups.

Eat to Beat Cancer

We are what we eat. Through the evolutionary time, we as a race have survived and developed. There is still much uncertainty about our food and its relationship to health. 1. Reduce your intake of animal fat; 2. Increase your daily fiber content; 3. Eat plenty of fresh washed fruit and vegetables; 4. Avoid obesity. These days cancer affects thousands, but conclusive research shows that by eating wisely we can not only improve our chances of beating cancer, we can also considerably cut the risk of developing cancer in the first place.

Doctors estimate that 35% of cancers are related to poor diet. This means that there’s a great deal we can do to help ourselves by changing the way we eat and knowing which are the important foods that will help our bodies stay free from cancer. Try to eat raw vegetables or cooked vegetables on slowly low heat. They may help you.

Indus soft shell turtles are dying

By Raheel H. Kaghzi, Sukkur, Sindh

The Indus river soft shell turtles are dying very fast in nesting season, this always happened in nesting season, today I have seen many turtles struggling for their survival, as every Sindhi trying to, they always come out for nesting from river, there are lot of locations but right now i am talking about Sukkur barrage, Labe Mehran, and Dadu canal Sukkur, they came out from indus for nesting but unfortunately they are on the road and the heavy traffic just smashes them to death, its more than 20s turtles are dead every day, five smashed dead bodies I have seen myself on the Labe mehran road, Sukkar, Sindh, Pakistan.

I don’t know where are the wildlife people, besides labe mehran they have conservation centre on the other hand they have an office near city transporation Stand (wagon stand sukkur), but no work no worries, and the indus have everything precious and endanger species such as Indus dolphins, etc,

The good news is that their are few volunteer citizens crossing by serving and trying to help them and at the end within few minutes we have saved six by converting their faces to labe mehran, but this is not the perfect solution for them, they need nest, sand and the proper condition to lay their eggs.

WAR ECONOMY

By Dr Ali Akbar Dhakan, Karachi

Non-economists do not know that there is no any recipe for econmic development in the presence of war. They must know that there are two kinds of economies i.e, (i)Peace economy in which the non-development expenditure is at lowest ebb but the development expenditure is at the highest height when every rupee is spent for productive purpose which means more and more goods are produced increasing the supply side of economy bringing prosperity due to low prices on account of the law of demand and supply meaning thereby that when supply is at higher side and demand is at lower side, the price will also be at lower side raising the purchasing power of the common man and vice versa and (ii) the war economy for which every rupee is spent for destruction and consumption purpose bringing no more production and creating shortage of goods or low supply which will cause high prices or price hike or inflation and causing low purchasing power of the common people just as at present,

Mr. President of Pakistan, Chairman of the Senate and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court may be part of the Pakistani Establishment, but the powerful component of the establishment–the Pakistan Military, intelligence agencies, including the ISI, which enjoys considerable influence in the decision-making, MI and IB and the bureaucracy-does not belong to Sindh. Sindhi language was declared to be a ‘kafir’ language by them!

When Sindhi students started demonstrations in support of their language and culture, the Commissioner of Hyderabad, Masroor Hassan, ordered to open fire on the bare-handed student at Jamshoro Bridge , killing a number of Sindhi youth. Sindh still celebrates 4th. March as the Day of Martyrs to remember the proud sons of the land who laid their lives to save their language and culture.
By Mohammad Ali Mahar, Austin, TX, USA
..The fact of the matter is that Sindh has been the biggest victim of this onslaught of the foreign culture. As soon as the country came into being, Karachi, the heart of Sindh, was taken over by the immigrant dominated central government.

Severe economic crisis threatens Pakistan’s stability
Wave of violence worsens Pakistan’s security, economic crisis

WASHINGTON – A growing al Qaida-backed insurgency, combined with the Pakistani army’s reluctance to launch an all-out crackdown, political infighting and energy and food shortages are plunging America’s key ally in the war on terror deeper into turmoil and violence, says a soon-to-be completed U.S. intelligence assessment.
A U.S. official who participated in drafting the top secret National Intelligence Estimate said it portrays the situation in Pakistan as “very bad.” Another official called the draft “very bleak,” and said it describes Pakistan as being “on the edge.”
The first official summarized the estimate’s conclusions about the state of Pakistan as: “no money, no energy, no government.”
Six U.S. officials who helped draft or are aware of the document’s findings confirmed them to McClatchy on the condition of anonymity because NIEs are top secret and are restricted to the president, senior officials and members of Congress. An NIE’s conclusions reflect the consensus of all 16 U.S. intelligence agencies.

History is an interesting subject

– Munawar Ali, USA, munawars88@gmail.com
History is an interesting subject. Just few centuries ago East was exactly like what now is West, from knowledge, culture and all other aspects. Muslim culture at that time was sign of glory. Muslims reached the pinnacle of civilization in Spain where they founded wonderful centers for knowledge and culture. Muslims ruled gracefully in Spain, Christians and Jews thrived during their time. History can repeat itself too.
Here is a modern song which kinda depicts that picture, singer is Jewish and I am sure she descends from that area, she sings in Arabic and the group is a Spanish popular group. Please be careful in opening as it may be graphic for some folks.Please click here or click the following link;

The Sindh Government has announced distribution of land to the tiller. Initially, it plans to distribute 2, 20,000 acres of land to the poorest of the poor ‘haris’. Peaceful thoughts & the positive energy Sindhis can contribute to the world

Sindhis would be glad to send peace delegations everywhere to sing songs of love and unite people of the world

By: Prof. Gul Agha

Sindhis are worried about water, food, environmental protection, wildlife protection, pollution, language erosion, cultural destruction, etc . They wish to .., everyone well (kafir momin jo bhalo). But now they have their own basic survival to worry about.

Last week at the University of Illinois, USA, we had a sufi ttolo of mangarnhaara who sang Shah Latif’s raarno, Hamalu fakiiru kaafii, played chungu, biinuun, Sindhi saraangii. The audience was black, white, Asian; Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Atheist, Christian.. Everyone was relaxed and thought peaceful thoughts. This is the positive energy Sindhis can contribute. Sindhis would be glad to send peace delegations with sufi fakirs everywhere to sing songs of love and unite people. That is the best we can do.

What they call “public opinion” is what.. who control Pakistani media think, not what the poor haarii (peasant) in Sindh thinks. The elite minds are agitated by fasaadii jihadi mentality and show a total lack of concern for poverty, contempt for indigenous languages and cultures, and obsession with imperialist colonialist era of caliphs and kings. The less President Zardari pays attention to this, the more he can focus on real problems (not that he has much de facto control or power, otherwise we could say good-bye to the … and are destroying Sindhi language and culture by imposing foreign language .. and alien militant ideology).

Religious tolerance in Sindh

By Javed Qazi, Karachi, Sindh

Surely there is a reasonable religious tolerance that exists in Sindh and in southern Punjab ( Balochs also have more historical and cultural links to the people living here). We know these are the areas where Sufi moment has deep roots. But also these are the areas that are living under same old feudal and clan norms and are highly primitive. Why has sufi moment been a failure in order to bring down the feudalism as it was also a part of its struggle, apart from bringing religious tolerance (where it had been a tremendous success)?

We urge to be as similar as Justice Rajinder Sachar Commission of India and a similar action program for Sindhis and Balochs by the government of Pakistan

By: Ali Nawaz Memon, Maryland, USA

I heard about the Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee report on social, economic and educational status of Muslims across India was tabled in Lok Sabha.

It recognizes special problems of the Muslim community in India and suggest very creative measures relating to affirmative action programs, special quotas etc to help needy Muslims.

A brief review indicates to me that condition of Muslims in India is generally similar to condition of Sindhis and Balochis in Pakistan. We need a similar Commission, a similar report and a similar action program by the government of Pakistan for our community.
