Sindhi Culture under attack by Pakistani Media

by: Khalid Hashmani, McLean, Virginia

For many years, Pakistan’s exploiting class including Urdu and some English media have been engaged in a malicious propaganda against Sindhi culture and language. First, they and short-sighted custodians of Sindh destroyed Sindh’s education system which was once envy of other provinces. Their particular assault was against Sindhi-medium schools that has ultimately resulted in the closure of more 7,000 Sindhi-medium schools in Sindh. This conspiracy has succeeded so much that many of Sindh’s middle class and upper middle class parents send their children to only the English and Urdu medium schools. Seeing the success of this conspiracy, the enemies of Sindhi culture and language have now extended their assault against Sindhi dress and other cultural aspects.

Khanam Googoosh

Khonom Googoosh not only a QUEEN OF HEARTS of Iranians but all those souls who love music.  The poem and lyric is probably written by an Afghan singer Ustad Zaland as a gift for Googoosh. The ban imposed on her by conservative government of Iran. Googoosh left the country in 2000.

Translation of song – I have come, wow, wow, I have come, LOVE shouts, I have come; I have come to fund Coquetry, Love shouts woow, I have come; My Sweetheart, I wish you live for one century, sit beside me and become my neighborhood; Become my neighborhood to shade on me, maybe Joining you is my Destiny; I have come, wow, wow, I have come, LOVE shouts, I have come woow; Love came and lodged in my Heart Desert, Manacle my heart with Loyalty; If Love do not Redress my heart, woe, my heart, woe, my heart, woe;

Sindhis would welcome U.S. consulate in Sukkur

by: Gul Agha

The Pakistani press has no problem keeping the consulates in Karachi and Lahore. But now that the US is taking an interest in disbursing billions of dollars in education and development assistance funds directly to Sindhi areas, they are screaming against US consulate in Sindhi area, calling it “suspicious”. A consulate in Sakharu should a…lso help Sindhis get visas and improve cultural exchanges, as I have heard that the Pakistani staff in the cities is sometimes hostile and biased against their cases. For Sindhis, it would be a very welcome move to have a consulate in Sakharu, and it will help the US understand the Sindhi perspective, thus improving relations with U.S.

A wonderful folk Sindhi song – Peirein Pawandee Saan..

by: Ahmed-Makhdoom, London, U.K.

A wonderful young man from my motherland, an illustrious and brilliant son of Jeejal Sindhrree, Joji Shaikh Saaeen, may Lord reward him for his Sindhyat and Sindhiness, sent me a video of an old nostalgic Sindhi folk song:پيزين پوندي سان چوندي سان Peirein Pawandee Saan..

Beautiful rendition of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s Peirein Pawandee Saan, Chawandee Saan – an immortal and immaculate Sindhi folk song – ably and comfortably sung by Renu Gidoomal and beautifully and decently presented in a dance form by a young Sindhi girl. Thses were the Sindhis, who are not living in their motherland, – they live in India. Still, they have not forgotten their beautiful heritage and what their culture is, traditions, norms, practices, principles and decent ways of life are.

Like a true  Sindhi, Saainni Renu gave a beautiful rendition of ‘peirein pawandee saan,’ that brought age-old memories trickling by, when I used to go to the shrine of  Bhittai Saaeen and listen to the faqeers of the Bhittai darbaar. At one such pilgrimage to the shrine, I was in company of Madam Annemarie Schimmel, according to her, a true “joggiaannee” and “faqeeriyaannee” of SaaIeen Bhitai ghottu. She used to call me ‘Cactus of Thar’ (Thooharr)

On that occasion, too, she asked me, “Thooharr, can you ask faqeer saaeen to sing, ‘peirein pawandee saan, chawandee saan‘?” She was mesmerised by this song and with quivering voice and tears wailing from her eyes she started to sing in whispers along with the noble faqeers. She was a foremost, formidable and famous admirer of Bhittai Saaeen, and used to refer to him as her ‘murshid.’

ISLAMABAD: Strawberry is no longer a fruit grown only in cool, hilly areas, as it is now being cultivated in the plains of Sindh.

Pakistanis will be able to taste two new varieties of the fruit in the beginning of the next year.

‘Sweet Charlie’ and ‘Festival’ are the varieties of strawberry whose saplings have been imported from the United States and planted in Khairpur, an area also known for the production of dates. The varieties have never been grown in Pakistan before. The Competitiveness Support Fund (CSF) is working on the project in collaboration with the Sindh government.

Opinion : Why this March is not so much effective?

by Jamil Junejo, Hyderabad, Sindh

Long March of Awami Tehrik from Kashmore to Karachi designed for multiple agendas is in way with vigor and enthusiasm towards its destinations. We can’t resist the temptation of paying glowing tribute to the marchers, walking in scorching sun, especially to daughters of this soil.

Awami Tehrik enjoys a large amount of proportion in contribution towards nationalist politics of Sindh. Some of the most significant aspects of politics of Awami Tehrik can be summed up thus: To evaluate and the analyze the issues in very scientific manner in light of local and international changing realities and to formulate its policies accordingly ;to highlight and create role of women in politics;to explode the myth that nationalist politics of Sindh is only confined to the parties and groups affiliated with ideology of Saeen G.M Sayed and to discard the impression that the from and manifestation of nationalist politics determined by G.M Sayed’s affiliated groups is final an determintal ; to integrate art with politics where by producing it vigiour, enthususiasm, spirit and charm;to create a reasonable and balanced blending of various existing political trends in Sindh viz, democratic, leftist and nationalist into its slogan of Qomi, Awami, Jamhoori, Tabqati Inqalab; and to promote trend of ideological orientation and training into politics.

If You Catch a flu

Catching a flu can make it harder to manage daily life, so you should do everything you can avoid cold or flu. When you are sick with a flu, your body sends out hormones to fight the infection. Having flu may curb your appetite, but it is important to eat something anyway. If you have a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, you will have to be careful not to allow your body to become dehydrated. Try to average about 1 cup of fluid every hour. If you are diabetic then choose water or sugar-free liquids. There is no medicine that will prevent or cure the common cold or flu, but there are medicines that can relieve some of the symptoms. These tips may help in flu: Take vitamin C espacially from natural source like lemon juice, orange juice, pomegranate juice, etc. Drink Black tea/Green tea/herbal tea without sugar and milk. Brsh and floss your teeth twice a day. If you smoke, quit. Take care of your general health.
